The Unwritten Whale Opal Stud Earrings

Playful whale-shaped earrings featuring luminous opals, capturing the magic of the ocean and the quiet beauty of stories waiting to unfold.

Description

Part of The Unwritten collection, the Whale Opal Stud Earrings blend natural beauty with a touch of poetic imagination. Each earring features a radiant opal that shimmers with soft flashes of color—like sunlight reflecting across ocean waves. The gemstone is gently held within a sculpted silver whale form, creating a design that feels both elegant and whimsical.

The opal’s shifting hues of blue, green, and warm light evoke the mystery and depth of the sea, while the smooth silver whale adds movement and life to the piece. Together they form a small ocean-inspired sculpture that celebrates nature, curiosity, and quiet wonder.

Within The Unwritten, jewelry becomes more than decoration—it becomes a memory in the making. These earrings begin as silver and opal shaped into form, but their true meaning grows through the experiences of the wearer. Every journey, moment, and story adds another layer to their significance.

Like the ocean itself, the story remains open—
waiting for your life to give it meaning.

Our jewellery

Each of our jewels is imbued with a sense of discovery. Drawn to the earth’s natural treasures, Ruth Tomlinson is renowned for a celebration of unconventional beauty; transforming often forgotten stories of historic jewels into her signature designs, marked by their tiny granular intricacies, ethereal character and serendipitous imperfections.

Our jewellery is handcrafted in our London atelier by our small team of skilled goldsmiths, with Ruth at the helm designing and making each new piece. We work with a few local suppliers who specialise in particular parts of the making process, all based within walking distance of our atelier. These low-impact methods ensure that we can actively oversee every step of the making process, while supporting the local economy and continuing to champion the traditional craft of jewellery-making in London’s historic jewellery district.
